Building Healthy Families

As part of our commitment to building a healthy community, Riverlife is hosting a ‘Building Healthy Families’ week from 5-8 September. Featuring guest speakers Liz Walker and Dr. Allan Meyer, there will be several events throughout the week designed to help address the issues of pornography and the effects of digital media on society.

1. Parenting our Kids in an Over-sexualised World
Friday 6 September 9.30-11.30am

The rise of pornography and digital media has had a dramatic impact on what our children are exposed to. Join us as we look at why our own healthy understanding of sex is important for us to confidently foster healthy conversations with our kids. Learn about key things kids need to know and when to tell them and equip yourself with strategies to help your kids navigate childhood. This event is aimed at parents of pre-kindy or primary school children.
COST $10pp
CHILDMINDING – $10/family

2. Men’s Breakfast: Walking as Men of Integrity
Saturday 7 September 7.30-9.30am
The only reason you can experience pleasure in life is because God has created a pleasure centre in your brain. Treat it with respect and life can be a taste of heaven, abuse it and life can become hell. The stakes are even higher with the developing teenage brain. Guest speaker Dr. Allan Meyer will unpack the latest research on the pleasure centre and apply insights to your personal life and the challenge of raising healthy teens for life.
This is for men of all ages including high school boys and grandfathers.
COST $18pp

3. Porn-proofing our Families: What you need to know
Saturday 7 September 2-4.30pm
Pornography is having a devastating effect on families. It’s unrealistic story lines and addictive nature are destroying marriages, families, and communities at large. Hear from leading researchers Dr. Allan Meyer and Liz Walker about how you can raise your teenagers with healthy views on sex and intentionally counteract negative cultural influences. This event is aimed at parents of pre-teen, teenagers and young adults.
COST $10pp
