“My heart is to see the Kingdom reality of “family” played out amidst the brokenness of our physical reality and facilitate the calling that is on each one of us to be the hands and feet of Jesus within our spheres of influence.”

I grew up as a pastor’s kid (and spent nine years as a missionary kid too) and have spent much of my adult life telling anyone who would listen that I would never ever become a pastor.  I had seen firsthand the effort that goes into the job so the fact that I am here in this role now is a testament to the redemptive power of Jesus and the way in which he works!

I had a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit while I was living in Germany for a period with my wife in 2012.  I was prompted to re-dedicate my life to Jesus and to surrender all that I was into His hands.  It was at this point God reminded me of a prophetic word that had been given to me several years earlier – that I would follow in the footsteps of my father into ministry.  I vividly remembered this event because of the vigorous head shaking that this initiated in me upon hearing this word.  I came to the realisation that surrender is only surrender if it is 100 per cent.  There was no way to be wholly surrendered to the will of God yet have firm objections about how He could use me.  I realised that unless I made this step of submission I would never really be able to progress further in my faith.  So I made the decision to open up my heart to Jesus and surrender to whatever He had for me, with the proviso that if he really was calling me this way, that He would change my heart.

After a five year process of obedience, here I am – complete with a changed heart! The faithfulness of God’s word and purposes over my life are playing out, pastoring the ‘Generations’ (25-40) age group here at Riverlife, whilst also continuing my work as an occupational therapist.

I have the privilege of having an awesome, creative and fun-loving wife Anna to do life with and we are enjoying the juggle of learning to be parents to our two young children, Archie and Maisie.  I have a growing guitar collection, love getting out on my motorbike and convincing myself that it’s time to get fit again – and maintaining that tension between eating well and raiding the McDonald’s drive-through.
