If you’re like most of us, finding time to connect with others can be challenging. But what if I told you that this small gesture could make a big difference in your life and the lives of those around you?

In our recent sermon series, “Blessed,” we’ve been exploring the idea of loving our neighbours. We’ve prayed for them, and listened to them, and now it’s time to take the next step: inviting them into our homes for a meal. This isn’t just about socializing; it’s about building meaningful relationships that reflect the love of Jesus.

The Main Point: Sharing a Meal as a Path to Connection

The main point of the sermon is clear: sharing a meal with your neighbours is a powerful way to build connections and show the love of Jesus. It’s not just about the food; it’s about the generosity, vulnerability, and openness that come with inviting someone into your home.

Why Should You Care?

You might be thinking, “Why should I care about inviting my neighbours over for a meal?” The answer is simple: because it can transform your community and your own heart. When you open your home and share a meal, you’re creating an opportunity for genuine connection. You’re showing your neighbours that you care about them, and you’re opening the door for deeper conversations and relationships.

What Do I Want You to Know?

I want you to know that sharing a meal with your neighbours is more than just a social activity. It’s a way to live out your faith and show the love of Jesus in a tangible way. It’s about being generous with your time and resources, being vulnerable in your conversations, and opening your heart and home to others.

Why Do I Want You to Know It?

I want you to know this because it’s a practical and impactful way to live out the commandment to love your neighbour as yourself. It’s a way to build a sense of community and support among those who live around you. And it’s a way to reflect the love and generosity of Jesus in your everyday life.

What Do I Want You to Do?

I want you to take the next step and invite a neighbour over for a meal. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; it could be a simple dinner, a barbecue, or even a cup of coffee. The important thing is to create an opportunity for connection and conversation.

Why Do I Want You to Do It?

I want you to do it because it can make a real difference in your life and the lives of your neighbours. It can help you build stronger relationships, create a sense of community, and show the love of Jesus in a practical way. Plus, it’s a way to live out the teachings of Jesus and follow His example.

How Do I Make It Memorable?

To make this memorable, think about the impact that sharing a meal can have. Remember the story from the sermon about the block party that brought neighbours together and created a sense of community. Think about how Jesus used meals to connect with people and transform their lives. And remember that this simple act of hospitality can have a lasting impact on your community.

Conclusion

So, what will you do this week to share a meal with your neighbours? Will you take the time to invite someone over and create an opportunity for connection? Remember, it’s not about the food; it’s about the generosity, vulnerability, and openness that come with inviting someone into your home. Jesus wants us to build relationships that bring glory to God and show His love to others. What step will you take this week to make that happen?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the example of Jesus, who showed us the power of sharing a meal and building connections with others. Help us to open our hearts and homes to our neighbours, to be generous with our time and resources, and to be vulnerable in our conversations. Give us the courage to take the next step and invite someone over for a meal. May our actions reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
