Day 16 | The Path to Jerusalem
Matthew 20:17-19
And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

As Jesus and His disciples approached Jerusalem, He once again, pulled them aside to essentially preview what was about to unfold. He reiterated His impending sufferings, death, burial, and resurrection, narrowing in on the core components of the gospel. The interesting part that stands out to me from Jesus repeatedly previewing the gospel with His disciples across the four gospels, is that they remained unprepared. This was what Jesus’ focus and mission was all about. His life and work converged on Calvary.
The beautiful Gospel is so profoundly encapsulated in John 3:16-18. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son..”
Today, may we all be reminded that our salvation hinges on our personal faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It encompasses both Who He is and what He accomplished on the cross.
