Meet Denise

"I don’t want to give the people up”

Denise's love for people keeps her saying 'yes'

This is Denise White, a faithful member of our church who has a love for the community of seniors. You’ll find her every Sunday morning in the Riverlife Café, connecting with others.

After 20+ years as a missionary in Liberia, and many missionary postings in Hong Kong, Denise returned to Brisbane in 2013. It was then she joined a community of seniors, who meet monthly. This group is affectionately called ‘SNUG’.

She later took over the group and has been leading it for the last 10 years.

This isn’t your ‘conventional’ kind of Life Group – about 20 people gather monthly in the Kenmore Library, spending three hours together. Sometimes they have guest speakers, watch short videos, or play boardgames. They always enjoy afternoon tea together and then have some time of spiritual input.

Each year, the group aims to memorise a Psalm together, which Denise admits is tricky for some!

When you ask Denise why she runs this group every year, she says: “Sometimes, I’m ready to stop leading it, but I don’t want to give the people up. I also stay because I know this is where God wants me at the moment.” What a beautiful sentiment.
