Meet our church neighbours at iSEE

We love celebrating what God is doing in our community!

“Our vision never changes: Love God. Build People. Reach Cities” - John Milburn

Just two minutes away from Riverlife is the vibrant, life-giving iSEE CHURCH. You’ve probably driven past the building many times, so we wanted to take you inside and introduce you to the Lead Pastors, John and Kat Milburn.

Both from the country NSW town of Narrabri, John and Kat have been Lead Pastors at the iSEE CHURCH Brisbane West location for almost two years.

As you walk into the church, you’re met with a sense of family, fun, presence, and vibrant worship. “We’re an encounter-based church,” shares John. “We believe just one encounter with God can change a person’s trajectory. So, we love creating a space for people to encounter God.”

The church is one of 16 iSEE CHURCH locations across Australia and internationally.

“The vision across iSEE CHURCH never changes: Love God. Build People. Reach Cities,” says John. “But our focus for the year is ‘Faith Adventure’, encouraging people to do what God is calling them to do. It could be going across the street or going across the globe.”

For Kat, it’s been so encouraging to see people step out this year. “We’ve been studying people in the Bible, like Abraham, who just went on their faith adventure, never really knowing the destination. They just said ‘yes’ to following a call from God to go,” she says.

“We’ve been seeing people step out in faith and obedience this year, especially in inviting others to church. There was one girl on Sunday who invited a friend to church, and she gave her life to Jesus. She had never been to church before,” Kat says.

As a church, there’s opportunity for people to go on a mission trip to Fiji this year, but both John and Kat agree this idea of going on a faith adventure is more than just a one-off overseas trip.

“It’s about encouraging people to seek God for something they could step out in this year,” John says. Maybe it’s asking someone to church or reaching out to someone across the street. This year, we’re supporting Jamboree Heights SS by supplying food hampers for families – we dropped off some hampers just yesterday!”

The Brisbane West location is at an exciting time, with lots of opportunities for reaching out to the city. “This church building keeps changing,” John shares. “The iSEE College has moved to a different iSEE CHURCH location, so there’s space for God to do something new here. The building is almost sitting here empty for some of the week, so we’re already dreaming of what could be using this building for in the community.”

This idea of reaching out is in the DNA of iSEE CHURCH.

The name ‘iSEE’ comes from the church’s foundational Scripture in Genesis 13:14, given to Senior Pastors Paul and Jo Geerling, who oversee all 16 locations.

God said to Abram, “Open your eyes, look around. Look north, south, east, and west. Everything you see, the whole land spread out before you, I will give to you and your children forever.

The name literally means what ‘I see’. Originally, the dream was to see a church in the north, south, east, and west of Brisbane. But now it’s expanded to the four corners of the country, and now moving globally.

Let’s pray for our church neighbours – that God would bring new opportunities as people go on faith adventures this year and beyond! Bless you iSEE CHURCH!
