LENT:

Wisdom in the desert

This lenten season, we’re stepping away from the noise, and into the desert.

Together with with Lectio 365 and 24-7 Prayer, we are exploring the wisdom of the Desert Fathers and Mothers. These early followers of Jesus retreated into wilderness places to seek silence, solitude, and a deeper walk with God. Their ancient practices speak powerfully to our modern world, and their lives invite us to ask: What if Lent was less about giving something up, and more about gaining something precious?

JOURNEY TOWARDS JESUS

We are all invited to follow Jesus into the wilderness, not just to reach Easter but to be transformed along the way. Lent is a journey not driven by fear, shame, punishment or self-effort, but by the secure love of a Father who delights in His children. As we head into the wilderness, we will confront sin and wrestle with distraction, but it is also an opportunity to seek holiness, grounded in humility, submission and grace. Let us journey towards Jesus together —through wilderness, surrender, and transformation—confident that we are deeply loved and continually formed by the Father, through the Son and by the Spirit.

loving silence and solitude

Pastor Ian and Alex Walker continue our Lent sermon series with their messages, Loving Silence and Solitude. They share from two different perspectives and different experiences, but both leading to the same powerful message:

The world is full of distraction but we are to withdraw into silence and solitude not as an escape but as a discipline so we can return to the world, for the world, radiant from within to draw others towards Christ as well.

THE FREEDOM OF RENUNCIATION

Pastor Aimee and Sarah Cathie continue our Lent sermon series with their messages, The Freedom of Renunciation. They share from two different perspectives and different experiences, but both leading to the same powerful message:

Lent is a vital opportunity to identify and renounce the material attachments, distractions, and "worldly masters" that compete with God for the loyalty of the human heart. They emphasise that true discipleship requires a shift in perspective—moving from a posture of accumulation and self-reliance to one of simplicity, generosity, and total surrender to Christ’s lordship.

THE FOOLISH WAY OF WISDOM

Pastor Jo and Pastor Sam continue our Lent sermon series with their messages, The Foolish Way of Wisdom. Drawing from the life of Saint Patrick and the teachings of Jesus and James, these messages emphasise that true wisdom is not the mere accumulation of information but the lived application of God’s truth through radical obedience.

It highlights a "heavenly wisdom" that often appears foolish to the world—such as Patrick returning to serve his former captors—yet provides the only unshakable foundation capable of withstanding the storms of life. Ultimately, the combined focus invites believers this Lent to move Christ from the margins to the centre of their lives, allowing the Holy Spirit to trade human ambition for a faith expressed in peace, mercy, and sincere action.
