A bit about me
I was born in Zimbabwe but lived in South Africa for most of my life, although I also lived and worked in England and South Korea for a few years. I love exploring new places and learning new things. I’m in my happy place when I’m near – or preferably in - the ocean. I love surfing, kayaking and landscape photography, as well as messing around with a ball and camping with my family. My wife Shélagh is my co-adventurer and best friend. We have three awesome, noisy kids – our daughter Liya and our twin boys Josh and Sam. Over the years I have had the privilege of travelling to many different countries, getting to know people from diverse cultures and working in a variety of roles and environments. Most recently I worked as the Regional Director (Southern and East Africa) for a global media and humanitarian charity, Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). Prior to that I was involved with Christian Vision, an organisation pioneering digital mission.
Most defining moment
I was baptised along with my good mate, Craig, when I was 19. It was certainly not the first time I had made a decision to follow Jesus, but it was the one that really mattered! Although so many of my friends and family were there to celebrate with me on that special night, I remember the staggering feeling of love and grace around me after I came out of the water. I quickly, almost desperately escaped the packed church foyer to be alone in my little car - alone in the dark with God. It was the first time I had been completely overwhelmed by the deep personal love of my Father and Lord and I wanted nothing more. It was beautiful and life-changing.
Why I do it
Mostly because God has called me as a son and invited me into His kingdom mission – what an adventure! I guess for me it’s about choosing to lean back into Father God each day – then stewarding the ‘time, treasure and talent’ He places in my hands in a way that represents Him well and adds lasting value to the things that really matter the most.
