Romans 3
Scripture anchor: Romans 3:9–26; 3:27–31
One-sentence theological focus: All are under sin, and God has unveiled his covenant faithfulness through the faithful saving work of Jesus.
Position in Romans’ argument:
Romans 3 is the turning point from universal indictment to gospel resolution. In Wright’s framework, the “righteousness of God” is centrally God’s covenant faithfulness, now manifested through Jesus the Messiah, whose death deals with sin and vindicates God’s justice. The chapter resolves the crisis raised in 1:18–3:20 and sets up Abraham in chapter 4 as the model of the one family created by faith.
